The Statue of Liberty has been one of our nation’s most iconic landmarks since it was unveiled in 1886. In the early 1980s, a massive restoration project began on Lady Liberty for the sake of re-opening the monument on her centennial anniversary in 1986. Such a large-scale restoration effort was considered groundbreaking at the time, including the scaffolding provided by UBS. UBS constructed a scaffold system that completely surrounded the statue’s exterior, from the base of the monument up to her iconic flame, covering a total height of 305 ft. UBS also provided scaffolding in the interior, as both scaffold systems served as the backbone of the project and allowed for tradesmen to work freely on repairs and restorations throughout the project.
